As the holiday season nears, fashion brands are rushing to meet your stylish seasonal needs by launching unique Holiday Collections for 2022. This week, Alexander Wang enters the fray, launching its holiday campaign and collection with an interesting twist.
This campaign takes all the familiar American traditions, but retells the story from the perspective of an Asian or Asian-American family. Meanwhile, the clothes on offer are the perfect fit for any cozy holiday celebration.
The capsule collection, dubbed Resort 22, takes a non-traditional approach on the classic velour and fleece styles of the holiday season.
Pastel velour tracksuits, cocktail dresses and two-piece sets are some of the real eye catchers, embroidered with a crystal ‘A’ logo on many of the items.
In addition to the velour pieces, the collection includes gold and silver earrings, black and baby pink heels; and satin-finish, baby pink handbags. Top off your look with a cozy fleece sweater for those colder nights.
The campaign, shot by Japanese photographer Fumi Homma, aims to highlight traditional American Christmas items, from the Christmas trees to gingerbread houses and ice sculptures, then updates them with some cultural twists.
The gingerbread house, for example, becomes a multi-story building inspired by traditional Asian architecture. Models pose with a pineapple upsidedown cake, an angel ice sculpture, and more.
One of the campaign images places models in the traditional family photo, similar to those taken every year in the United States. The message is accompanied by pieces from the collection like the velour cocktail dress, denim button downs and fleece sweaters.
Alexander Wang is no stranger to experimenting with messages through its campaigns and collections. Earlier this year, the designer launched a campaign with model Pure Rueangaram, showcasing an ambiguous take on the American cowboy. It’s all part of Wang’s attempt to show more of this country and the world’s population to itself in the fashion world.
If you’re itching to try out any of the pieces from this collection—none of which are ugly or itchy sweaters—you can now shop the full holiday Resort 22 collection at alexanderwang.com.
