Look Here: A new Coworking members space opens downtown.
The front room of Here House is typically a hive of activity, with members hosting meetings over coffee or getting down to business.
Encountering a group of 30-somethings sitting around a long work table, tapping away on laptops, chatting on conference calls and sipping alternative milk lattes, sounds like any contemporary city’s coworking scene—not somewhere in a ski town with a gondola one block away. The recent opening of Here House—a “WeWork meets Soho House,” describes Director Shenna Jean Richardson—is new evidence that Aspen resembles a cosmopolitan small city, particularly with the growing number of residents who telecommute full time. Here House is the brainchild of Candice Carpenter Olson and Michaela Carpenter, an Aspen-raised entrepreneur who most recently lived in London. Carpenter describes it as a “members space,” as opposed to club, as the purpose is to create community, not to exclude from one. The “space” is currently connected to and served by Local Coffee House, which the two women also founded alongside Kevin Newland, and is separated by a partial wall and curtain. Members on the Here House side are offered table service that connects directly to their credit card on file (a fun perk when considering the busy cafe’s lines during on-season). The chicly appointed physical area includes a conference room, living room and front room with semiprivate two-tops (all available for private reservations via an app), while the newfound community offers events of all stripes and as many ways to connect with other members. “Aspen is a multifaceted place, and the people here have multifaceted lives,” says Carpenter. “We want to support people living and building a life here.” Memberships $115-$200 per month with an annual commitment, 614 E.
