“BIOPHILIA” IS A TERM POPULARIZED BY AMERICAN BIOLOGIST and author Edward O. Wilson, who theorized humans have an innate tendency to seek connections with nature. Wilson literally wrote the book on it: Biophilia (1984). This summer, Biophilia: Nature Reimagined—a multisensory exhibition with architectural models, kinetic sculptures and immersive digital art experiences at the Denver Art Museum—will explore humanity’s instinctive desire to connect with the natural world. Artwork includes fashions from Iris van Herpen, architecture by Studio Gang and “Floraform Chandelier” from Nervous System design studio. Taking inspiration from branching leaf veins and ruffled flower petals, this hanging light was developed with generative algorithms and fabricated using an additive 3D-printing process.
