BY SHOWCASING DENVER’S UNIQUE STYLE AND CULTURE and generating national media attention for emerging talent, Denver Fashion Week (denverfashionweek.com) cements the Mile High City’s reputation as a hub for creativity and a destination for devotees of fashion. What began in 2012 as Denver Fashion Weekend is now a twice-yearly weeklong celebration of the city’s growing, vibrant fashion community. This open-to-the-public extravaganza of fabulousness provides local designers, models, artists and stylists a platform to showcase their talent and creativity. Fashion designer Tyne Hall has been participating in the event since 2016. “DFW allows you to reach those in Denver who really love art and fashion,” she says. “By having the opportunity to do more shows and to work with other creatives, my design aesthetic has evolved and matured.” Hall describes her designs as “feminine with a gothic edge.” A darker, almost witchy imagery is part of her shows, too, where she loves connecting with the models backstage. “I call my group of models ‘The Coven.’ My collection is a tribute to that sisterhood we’ve developed.”
Staged in spring and fall, DFW has themed shows nightly featuring categories like streetwear, couture and sustainable fashion. In addition to runway shows, DFW hosts a fashion model industry workshop during each event. The goal is to nurture talent and further create a sense of community within the Denver fashion crowd. It’s also a lot of fun. Each night opens with a mix-and-mingle cocktail party and an on-site shopping experience. The runway shows are a spectacular, high-energy display of style. And most nights are capped by after-parties.

“I’ve seen a lot of changes in Denver fashion over the years, and the quality of shows has gone up immensely,” says Mona Lucero, a Denver-based artist and fashion designer who’s been creating one-of-a-kind wearable art for over 30 years. “DFW brings a new level of professionalism and is a source of pride for us and the city.”
