READ ANY MAGAZINE ski-test review, and you can’t help but notice the proliferation of race car metaphors used to describe the on-snow performance of a ski. Skis can have powerful acceleration out of the turn or handle corners like a Formula One race car. A partnership between a car and a ski brand seems fitting. New this season, legendary auto brand Porsche (porsche.com) and Head Sportswear (head.com) collaborated on a limited-edition line of skis, apparel and accessories.
“Head Sportswear and Porsche are both inspired by design and racing,” says Roman Stepek, VP global at Head Sportswear. “Both brands bring immense technical and design knowledge to the table.” Former World Cup ski racer and two-time Olympian Aksel Lund Svindal helped develop the line and serves as the collaboration’s ambassador. “When two premium brands that are fully dedicated to performance, quality and speed develop something new together, the result becomes something extraordinary,” Stepek says.
There are two newly constructed ski models in the collection. The race-inspired Porsche 7 is designed to, well, carve corners like a Porsche on the racetrack. It features an innovative ceramic piezo element installed in the ski to absorb vibrations by converting kinetic energy into electrical energy. The Porsche 8, which has an 88-mm waist width, promises to cruise comfortably off-piste The collaboration also includes ski poles, a visored helmet and a ski bag with the Porsche logo. Technically sophisticated apparel in Porsche’s red, white and black racing colors rounds out the collection
