Louis Poulsen releases two luminary fixtures to light up fall.
Says Øivind Slaatto, designer of the Patera Oval, “The new version is designed to hang above tables in urban apartments, where the ceiling might not be as high. I wanted to design a pendant that requires less space but still provides full light on the table.”
This fall, heritage lighting brand Louis Poulsen introduces the modern-minimalist Patera Oval pendant and re-editions the PH 2/2 Question Mark lamp in limited number. Speaking to the Louis Poulsen aesthetic, each fixture nods to the Danish house's inimitable style, combining forward-looking design cues with reverence to timeless shapes and superior engineering.

Born from 0ivind Slaatto's spherical Patera—which, debuted in 2015, follows the design principles of the Fibonacci structure—the handassembled Patera Oval pendant is ellipsoidal with diamond-shaped cells to eliminate glare and emit a soft, radiant glow. Says Monique Faber, director of decorative product and design, "The Fibonacci sequence-based structure provides a different impression from every vantage point, which makes the lamp really interesting to look at. It never becomes boring. It seems almost alive. The sculptural shape captivates spaces both on and off, and it is really key for Louis Poulsen that the designs are as beautiful off as they are with light on."
Poul Henningsen’s PH 2/2 Question Mark lamp is re-editioned this fall.
Originally designed by Poul Henningsen in 1931, the PH 2/2 Question Mark lamp also makes a cameo this fall in limited edition (in Louis Poulsen stores Oct. 1 through Dec. 31). True to the original, the 2021 re-edition forms the signature curves of a question mark, with mouthblown triple-layered opal glass shades to delicately filter the light and an untreated lightly brushed brass base that will patina over the course of time. "The organic shape of the stem and the curved shades beautifully complement the modern decor trends of both colors, eclectic curated interiors and natural material like wood and other tactile features," says Faber, thus cementing Louis Poulsen as a powerhouse of lighting design in the past, present and future.
