SPA MONARCH OFFERS A DAZZLING ARRAY OF WAYS TO RELAX AND RESTORE.
INSIDE THE COED AQUA SPA LOUNGE at Spa Monarch (monarchblackhawk.com), you can follow a hot soak in a jetted tub with gentle snowfall under the lounge’s experiential nature shower, which rotates through weather patterns from ice fog to tropical rainstorm. Those temperature vacillations can improve circulation and decrease inflammation—and how cool is an indoor snow shower?

This luxury spa sits atop Monarch Casino Resort Spa’s 23-story hotel tower, which opened in 2020 after a $400 million expansion. The hotel has 516 guest rooms and suites, five restaurants and some 60,000 square feet of gaming space. More soothing than roulette, we think, is to spend the afternoon ambling from one of the spa’s lounges to the next. The laconium’s heated contoured bench promises to melt stress. Breathe in salt air in the brine-inhalation light therapy lounge, where a cascading brine waterfall has created an organic wall of salt crystal formations. In the mountain steam bath, a Rube Goldberg-style contraption mechanically lifts an iron basket filled with hot stones and plunges them into ice-cold water, filling the room with mineral-infused steam. The herbal steam room offers a sensory experience, combining humidity, aromatherapy and a star-studded ceiling. Set inside a glass-filled space adjacent to the spa, there’s an indoor infinity pool and jetted spa. Outside, the rooftop deck has another jetted spa, fire pit and views overlooking North Clear Creek Canyon.
And, lest we forget, the spa’s multitude of lounges can be the perfect prelude or postscript to the main event: a luxurious spa treatment.
