Osmia's clean beauty line aims to keep your skin healthy and happy.

Osmia, a clean beauty company based in Carbondale, is taking skincare health to the next level. Founded by Dr. Sarah Villafranco, Osmia creates soaps and skincare products composed of fewer, less complicated, all-natural ingredients—all aimed at supporting the skin and working with the body for absorption.
Villafranco was inspired to start a skincare line through her experiences working as an emergency room doctor and the untimely death of her mother. As a doctor, she felt she was only putting out fires, rather than helping and encouraging people to live a healthier lifestyle. Her mother’s passing made Villafranco realize what a privilege it is to age, and she wanted to change the way women speak to themselves in the mirror and specifically remove the idea of shame from aging.
Combining her medical experience and the lessons she learned at a soap-making class at ACES’ Rock Bottom Ranch in Basalt, Villafranco set out to develop clean, healthy products that help negate the effects of what people put on their skin every day.
“The skin is an exchange organ and absorbs a lot of what you put on it—enough to cause a problem if it has the wrong ingredients,” she says.
The goal of Osmia’s products is to make the body feel supported, not to change or add to the chemistry of the body—like many commercial products. Osmia serums, soaps, gels and oils are for all skin types with all-natural ingredients, and are void of Osmia’s “Tox Screen”—parabens, phthalates, sulfates, polysorbate 20, petrochemicals, synthetic color and synthetic fragrance—and are chemical- and toxin-free.
There is data-driven science, researched by Villafranco herself, on the negative effects of the “Tox Screen” on humans, plants, animals and the environment, including length of menstrual cycles, birth weight, rashes and dermatitis.
The skin from the neck down makes up 91% of the surface area of your body. Osmia strongly emphasizes using an organic bar soap to restore and keep your skin and body healthy. The company’s large soap bars come in a variety of scents and it creates limited-edition seasonal soaps at various times throughout the year.
Osmia also has a range of clean beauty facial products made for all skin types. Its most popular products are the black clay facial soap ($24), Purely Simple face cream ($60) and Spotless blemish oil ($22).
