Susan Hall’s interior design is elegant, organized, striking. Born to Polish immigrants, Hall owes her visual sense to her mother, who had a fierce Mad Men style. Hall has always loved art and history and is drawn to antiques for their craftsmanship and attention to detail. A 2021 Colorado Homes & Lifestyles Circle of Excellence winner, Hall sees color and delights in mixing eras in her designs. She says she can feel each house she works with, as if it were a living thing, lending reverence and depth to her approach. Working out of her Boulder-based design studio (susanhallstudio.com), Hall favors preservation and pieces that can be cherished and passed on. Here, she shares a few of her favorite things to feather your nest.

Nobilis Paris Narcisse Wallpaper
Offering a taste of French luxury with a combination of fantasy and drama, this Nobilis (nobilis.fr) wallpaper adds an art element to any space with an air of the unexpected. “It’s so vivid with gem tones, it draws your attention. It creates a greeting near the front door,” Hall says. “The best wallpaper looks like an art piece.” The paper is nonwoven, made from natural and synthetic fibers.

The right chair can elevate a space and serve as a refuge from our increasingly overstimulating world. “A chair and ottoman supports downtime; it’s a place to read a book and recharge,” Hall says. She loves this well-designed and constructed set by Herman Miller (hermanmiller.com), which was inspired by the construction of ski boots (think hard shell, soft liner). “It truly maximizes support and comfort with its firm and soft surfaces,” she says.

Lighting is a statement piece that is functional but also creates a space— it can even create a room, says Hall. It can be romantic or industrial, matching the element of a room or providing a needed contrast. “Lighting is the diamond earrings when you go out,” Hall says. The Rousseau chandelier (visualcomfort.com) is oversized and fabulous.
