The new Mijenta Tequila is toasting Frida Kahlo with a cocktail recipe in honor of Mexican Independence Day, which falls on Wednesday, and Hispanic Heritage Month, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The former is a fiesta in celebration of Mexico’s independence from Spain, the latter a month to recognize the contributions and influence of the Latinx community on American history, society and achievements.
Unaged and made with fully matured highland agaves from Jalisco, Mexico, Mijenta Blanco is infused with centuries of Mexican tradition. The brand also focuses on sustainability, using agave byproducts to create labels and boxes for bottles, and works hand-in-hand with local communities.
This year, Mijenta Tequila gives a nod to Kahlo, a fearless Mexican painter known for her Surrealist self-portraits, folk art and trademark facial features—the ever-iconic unibrow. The cocktail, created by Mijenta Tequila founder Juan Coronado, is called Frida’s Flowers, reminiscent of how Kahlo's hair was often braided with fresh flowers.
Blend Mijenta Blanco Tequila, strawberry or hibiscus syrup, a dash of fresh lime juice and a hit of creme de cacao. Shake, strain, put some flowers in your hair and sip slowly.
