While it’s not uncommon for couples to write their own wedding vows, Janice and Alex Stevenson, a pair of tattoo artists in Crested Butte, put their own stamp on the day by designing one-of-a-kind ski graphics through Romp Skis (rompskis.com).

“They have a DIY graphic option, so you can design your own top sheets,” Janice says. Drawing from her tattoo designs, she incorporated ornamental detailing and snow monkeys for an original ski graphic. “Traveling has really influenced our art,” she says. “Having seen snow monkeys in Japan, I knew I needed to have them on my skis.”

The wedding, held last winter at Crested Butte, started with the couple skiing across the mountain with a pack of 80 wedding guests in tow. Janice wore a wedding dress from Denver’s Grace Loves Lace, paired with a found fur headband and matching stole. Alex sported a retro headband and blue corduroy suit. They said “I do” in a snow-covered meadow under sunny skies.
The couple had met at CU Boulder, reconnecting a decade later over a shared passion for tattooing. “I’d been in Crested Butte since 2011, and Janice moved here to start a life—and our business, High Nowhere Tattoo Studio,” Alex says. Wedding guests were encouraged to don costumes and skis. “It was a lot of ’80s skiwear,” he says. “Costumes are such a big part of the Crested Butte lifestyle; we wanted to share that experience with people.”
