What's Your Type: Aspen Archetypes Get Sorted

By Oliver Sharpe By Oliver Sharpe | January 29, 2020 | People

Aspen is a mountain town melting pot, attracting a wide array of characters united by their passion for peaks, powder and partying. Like a high-elevation Hogwarts, Aspen archetypes are sorted into distinct categories, often by their hats. What defines these groups of Aspenites is not their similarities, however, but rather the difficulties they face in their daily lives. All Aspen problems are not created equal.

TheUberathlete.jpgFocused on earning turns and feeling the burn; shaving seconds from the PR is their only concern.

TheNIMBYDiehard.jpgThe more things change, the better they seemed back in the day to these malcontents. Penning letters to the editor is the sole concern of these disgruntled gents.

TheBachelorPartyGuy.jpgAspen is the perfect spot for a weekend with the boys to open up the throttle—just have to figure out whose card is down before they pop another bottle.

TheSkiBunny.jpgBubbles in hand on the dance floor, looking for love or a husband to score—does it still count as après if we didn’t ski before?

TheFreak.jpgFreak power is alive and well with these young guns defying gravity on the daily for the ’gram. No worries here, except pro deals on gear and bro deals on beer.

TheHipGalleryGirl.jpgWent to school and studied art history; her parents are thrilled that she found work at a gallery. Faced with one of life’s big mysteries, she wonders how to survive on this salary.

ThePowerBroker.jpgJust one deal can make a broker’s year, whether the house is sold or bought. Their only fear is just how long the market will stay hot.
