STUDIO M: Mikaela Shiffrin Performance Studio (athleticclubwestin.com) is a 900-square-foot gym that defies the ordinary. Located in Avon inside the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa’s Athletic Club, which just completed a $500,000 overhaul, Studio M is inspired by one of the most celebrated Alpine ski racers of all time. Mikaela Shiffrin, who just clinched her fourth overall World Cup title—bringing her crystal globe count to 12—grew up ski racing 8 miles away in Vail. “I’m thrilled that they created this incredible new workout space for athletes of all skill levels,” says the two-time Olympic gold medalist. “A strong and consistent training regimen is critical to reducing injury on the slopes.”

The gym is outfitted with new state-of-the-art equipment such as TechnoGym treadmills, spin bikes and cross-training stations with app-connected entertainment, biofeedback and large HD screens and TVs. The space pays homage to Shiffrin’s late father with sentimental quotes adorning sunny yellow walls, like “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.” “My dad always operated by what he deemed the Golden Rule: ‘Be nice, think first, have fun,’” Shiffrin says. “He instilled these values in my brother, Taylor, and me. It’s one of the first things I ever remember learning from him, and I often think about that, especially in the frustrating moments in life. His unwavering patience and devotion to the people he cared about is something I hope to carry through my life.”
For preseason leg and full-body prep, opt for a boot camp class, up the ante with the help of a private trainer or perfect your stride on a Skillrun treadmill that can adjust to 25 degrees uphill. Just don’t be surprised to see Shiffrin doing one-legged squat jumps next to you.
